I have got the choice of purchasing either a secondhand Arcam FMJ33 or a
new Cambridge 840 CD player.

Unfortunately I cannot audition either in my home set up but have heard
both by way of demo. I am struggling to decide.

Any advice?

regards

Jon

Hi,
Cambridge is 740 pounds as is new.
Arcam is secondhand, but in great condition and is 560 pounds.

If I were in the market for a good amp I'd seek out a second-hand

Agreed, but beware that they can be a bit wearing if your have a bright
system as they also tend to be bright.

That's the trouble with CDs - they *are* wearing!

(Never mind how much silly money some people fling at the players....)

Ever auditioned the Rotel CD 1072? I found the Rotel heaps better even
in comarision to a Rega and Marantz.
