This is to go with my old Amstrad stack unit which is in my bedroom. Do
you think it would be a worthwhile buy for me?

It would be a start if you found out what magnetism is.

They must work, Stereophile reviewed the RL-30 record demagnetizer and
it removes the high frequency glaze and harshness from the records.

I believe my records will benefit because they sound harsh playing on my
old Amstrad stack in my bedroom.

What do you think? Stereophile must be telling the truth or they'd not
write the review. eh! For a grand it sounds like a bargain if it
improves the sound on my old Amstrad.

For a while I imagined this MUST be a joke but not so ....

http://stereophile.com/features/1007reccomps/

" Acoustic Revive RL-30 Mk.3 record demagnetizer: $1975
The RL-30 Mk.3 removed the high-frequency glaze from harsh-sounding LPs to make
a believer out of Mikey. "I'm sorry to report that demagnetizing LPs
works—consistently and decidedly," he said. Its conservative looks and useful
dustcover give it an edge over Furutech's De Mag, in MF's opinion. (Vol.29
No.10) "

Any credibiltiy Stereophile may once have had just went out the window. What a
bunch of ****wits ! Just goes to show how unreliable the human ear is.

I'd love to see the actual review! And the one for the Benz unit at
a tenth of the price, which "...seems to do the job as well as any of
them."

I found this online ..........

"RL-30 Mark III Large-sized Demagnetizer for Analog records and Cables. Including
Tourmaline Negative Ion effect. Limited series - 300 examples

LP are magnetized from the beginning due to magnetic substances included in the
vinyl.

The RL-30 Mark III can completely demagnetize LPs, cables and receptacles, and all
kind of optical discs such as CD, HDCD, SACD, DVD, DVD Audio as well as CD-R, DVD-R
and MD, and can rejuvenate their original sound/picture quality.
By using RL-30 III for CD-R or DVD-R in advance, you can create a high quality
sound/picture recording without errors.

It is also effective to make a great improvement of audio cables, connectors and
power cables preventing the inevitable buildup of magnetic fields.

RL-30 III is also equipped with "negative ion (minus ion) generator" which will
improve the sound by making it more vivid and natural."

If it was in the UK at least you ought to be able to get that removed under the
Trades Descriptions Act.

It's time to pull the rug from under all this voodoo nonsense.
