That's an absurd comment. Have you been under a rock recently?? MANY new
songs use this technique, it's just like adding "noise" to pictures or
indeed shooting a film in black and white.

Have you GOT Cubase? It's included. Should be in your plugins list.

Adding Crackle!
more from the 'Tom school' of uk.rec.audio-ism:
Greetings friends.
Anyone know how to add vinyl crackle in CEP2 or Adobe Aud 1.0, or
indeed if there is a good sound effect of it which i can just overlay
in multi track?? Have often wanted to use this in my stuff but don't
know how! Short of sampling long periods of inactivity in vinyl, i'd
like an easier, preferably customiseable way of doing it!
Regards people.
T.
Going OT here, but I wonder - if the crackle simulation was real enough and
the work was pressed to LP, what would it look like - an actual scratch?

Most of the pro sound FX libraries have a surface noise track. I'm not
sure if any free to download ones do, but it might be worth a search.
FWIW, to get an authentic vinyl or shellac sound you need also to
introduce 2nd harmonic distortion as well as eq if it's meant to be old.
