Hi
I've recently created a Google-group for the original Cambridge Audio
HiFi.

http://groups.google.com/group/vintage-cambridge-audio

Currently there's the complete P50 Service Manual (80pp) - which
covers all 3 types.
There are also circuit diagrams/manuals/reviews for P50/P60/T55/R50 -
the list is being added to.

Hope this is of some interest to members here.

The problem with 'groups' run by commercial companies like google or yahoo
is that you tend to have to 'register' which involves giving personal
details and accepting rather dubious 'conditions' to access the info.

e.g. the details yahoo ask for allow them to establish your individual
postal address (which they may pass on for other purposes) and you have to
agree to allow them to send you emails whenever they wish.

Plus, given other problems like those which have recently surfaced for
'facebook' I can't say I am enthused to join such groups even when the
information is of interest.

So why not simply put the info on a website where anyone interest can
access it *without* having to give away personal info that might be of use
for identity theft or unwanted junk mailing, etc?

Slainte,

Jim

Hi.
Well..you don't need 'to register' to download the info - and do know
that more than a few haven't.
You *do need to have an email address to post - but it's easy enough
to create one (yahoo/hotmail..) for that purpose (and which will get
the 'junk' mail - *or not*..as it's not a UseNet group..neither do
Google require 'verification' of postal address, etc.

But this is a 'niche' group/resource - and I don't think a 'proper'
website is justified..
Until now virtually no info has been available on the web for CA
products - so the group is there if you would like to 'donate' info.
I'm not expecting it to have much 'discussion' - although I've sent a
few ideas to Stan - who, as the designer of many products, has more
info to hand also.
With equipment of this era most folks will encounter 'faults' - also,
there may be various 'upgrades' that can be attempted...an area I'd
like to cover.
Really, it's up to folks whether or not to join - however I don't see
the 'problems' - art least as you depict them..
It's simply there if the info's wanted...and folks have the Gumption
to do a Google 'Groups' search!

Presumably the " ISPs, hosting companies and so forth " are all
Charities then?
If you set up, say, a Yahoo account (I've a few) you can 'make up' a
Postcode (I also use a US ZIP-code)/Profile/Name.
The only thing 'Personal' is they have your ISP address - as do the
other Web-Sites that you visit.

Tell you what..
The info is on the V-C-A site.
You just copy it and set up an ever-so-PC site..I'll even link to it..
See how much extra 'Forum Activity' it attracts.
As an aside, I do feel that a specific 'Non-Quad/Leak, etc' site
devoted to British HiFi manufactured by the smaller/cottage Co's (like
Armstrong..) would be good - but I'm not creating it..

I'm with Jim here - companies like Yahoo and Goofle are in the business of
corporatising the Web - it is so easy to do stuff like set up Web space,
forums and the like. Agreed that this latter course probably means some
reliance on ISPs, hosting companies and so forth - but going with the likes
of Yahoo just doesn't feel attractive to me - at least. Having begun to
get some individual empowerment it seems a pity to throw it away and end up
in the rather dubious clutches of a few massive corporate entities.

Do you not get a heap of free web space from your ISP? I do - much
more than I will ever use. Just fence off a corner of it for this; all
you really need to do is make a directory structure and put the files
in it with some suitable links on a web page. It doesn't actually need
any kind of login and personal info sharing to function, does it?
