Default Pioneer CD Recorder Problem (PDR - 05)

I've had the above for about 8 years and it has now stopped
working. It's probably the age and I need a new one,but is there
anything I could try first to rectify this fault. When I put a CD in,it
comes up "Check Disc" every time,no matter what CD I put in.
Any suggestions ? Thanks all.

Just a thought - have you tried switching it off and unplugging it from the
mains for an hour or so?

(Although it's almost certainly suffering from a dirty laser if it hasn't
been cleaned in that time.)

I really am not the best person here to advise you, but if it were my CDP
I'd damn soon have the top off it and would puggling about with a cotting
bud and a blob of isopropanol, rather than batter my laser lens ****less
with one of those crappy disks with the bristles on it......
