Still for my sixpenny worth, I have never heard a speaker that matches
the soundstage of big Tannoys. That's why I shelled out my hard earned
on a pair of Tannoy Yorks recently.

Maybe the voices 'honk' but I don't hear that!

Maybe that's the reason. We both heard Tannoys so much our hearing is
damaged in the 'honk' region' so we don't hear it. That said I don't
ever remember hearing it in the first place. I'll admit the little 12
inch Golds I have now do 'honk' but that's the crappy small cabinets
they are in - another project.

I remember testing my hearing back in the 70 and I could hear up to near
20KHz. Today it drops like a stone from 12KHz.

A true dual concentric design like Tannoy's requires special parts and
tooling.

Depth is a big issue for autosound speakers, and true dual concentrics add
depth.

The tweeter of a typically-sized dual concentric driver - say 5 or 6 inches
in diameter, would be very tiny.

As others have pointed out, the KEF Q-series driver while truely coaxial, is
not built like a traditional dual concentric system. AFAIK, the tweeter is
not a compression driver.

I believe that there are standard minature dome tweeters that would fit in
front of the woofer pole-piece and within the diameter of the woofer voice
coil.

The one bugbear with my Lowthers is that male voices on the radio can/do
sound 'honky' - everything else is sublime!!
