I just received a new CD today, Stacey Kent's "Breakfast on the Morning
Tram" . It's her first since signing to Blue Note.
I was impressed by the sound quality, and apparent lack of compression.
Ripping one track and analysing it, normalisation is a few samples below
0dBFS, with no sign of waveform clipping. Congratulations to Blue Note
records and to Curtis Schwartz who recorded, mixed and mastered the CD.
I also checked one of her previous CDs, (actually husband Jim Tomlinson's)
called The Lyric. This one has been normalised to -1,4dBFS, and with again
no sign of waveform clipping. This one was also recorded at Curtis Schwartz
Studios in Sussex.
So it can and is being done, now if only others would take note.
