I've recently been offered an Akai GX 7070 amplifier. Seller doesn't
know a whole lot about it, except bought in late 80s, early 90s.

Does anyone know anything about this amp, its watts rms etc. Is it
worth having?

Apologies for climbing on one of my hobby-horses, but "watts rms" is a
meaningless term. I know it's a term that is often used by those who should
know better, but power in an AC system (such as audio) is the product of rms
voltage and rms current (with a correction for power-factor thrown in). The
term "rms" applies *only* to the voltage and current, *not* the "watts".

What you mean is "continuous sine-wave power" to differentiate it from
non-continuous ("music power") and peak power ratings, both of which were
invented simply to make the specs of low-power amplifiers look more
impressive.

Are you sure about the model number? Akai amplifiers tend to start with
AA or AM.

I think you're taking a chance with an amplifier that old, so I wouldn't
be inclined to offer too much. Try an advanced search, completed
listings on ebay - it may get you close to something on offer.

Nothing special I imagine. Akai weren't exactly know for great
amplifiers anyway.

**No such animal. Re-check the model number. Someone is likely to be
mistaken. GX-XXXX is a tape machine of some kind.
