Bleeding levels...
Just got an HD satellite receiver. My TV has a DVI-D input but the box a
HDMI one so had to spend a fortune on a lead. And of course another for audio. Connecting the analogue resulted in audio a lot lower than everything else - despite the box output being on max - so I tried the SPDIF, same thing. How come makers agree on picture levels but not audio? Also, anyone know a source of short HDMI-DVI leads? The only one I could find is a metre long - 400mm would be more than enough. You can get ones for Playstations of the correct length - but the DVI connections are wrong. -- *Before they invented drawing boards, what did they go back to? Perfectly OK and just as good as the ones people sell for 10 times the price and claim they are 10 times as good. The con artists moved to HDMI after people realised they were ripped off buying SCART leads. |

HDMI - DVI plug adaptors are under $10 from Parts Express in the US. I presume there is a comparable UK source. |

But an untidy solution - as well as introducing an extra connection. I usually make my own leads to exactly the correct length - as the back of the TV is already a bad enough bird's nest without having spare cable everywhere. But I've not investigated making HDMI and DVI leads. But I have found and ordered a 500mm HDMI to DVI-D from Farnell. Didn't think to check them as I usually use CPC which has a similar stock. -- *If you don't pay your exorcist you get repossessed.* Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

Although I'm told some have fiddled other makes to get that. I wanted that one with the FreeView tuner as my TV doesn't have one and I recently wanted to watch something while recording two FreeView channels at the same time on my PVR. ;-) -- *The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese * Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

Other country's broadcasters are peaking to 0DBFS which then matches the other sources - just not the UK ones, etc, which peak to only -10. I see by their blurb that you can get BBC AND ITV HD. My Fortec Star needed
a firmware update to get it. Maybe your one is waiting to be updated -- John the West Ham fan C.E.T. "Dave Plowman (News)" wrote in message ...
