Personally, I find the whole concept of in-ear phones utterly disgusting
( I
have quite waxy ears). The only thing that goes inside them (very
carefully)
are Q-tips to clean the wax out.

Do you *need* anything that small ?

Graham

I have yet to find a pair of in the ear phones that will stay in my ears.
They are totally useless.

Does anyone have any recommendations about good enough in-ear headphones
for a portable MP3 player (no extra amplifier) for use when travelling?
Specific models or general advice about what to look out for and what
to avoid?

I use, and heartily recommend, Koss "The Plug" earphones. The last 2 pairs
were bought for about a fiver from Amazon Marketplace.

They're supplied with little spongy "cones" that sit in the ear, but I make
replacements with proper earplugs, like this...
http://www.headwize.com/projects/cmoy4_prj.htm
(if you Google for "koss plug modification" you'll find several other
methods)

They drown out the noise of the daily commute and the constant stream of
bull**** from my supervisor perfectly.
