I have been buying lenses on eBay lately and, believe me, there's no shortage of bidders on the 'choice' secondhand items items, but the audio stuff I looked up recently was going for peanuts with a lot of items sliding off the table without a single bid, as I said before. There's a lot of 'items' in there... :-) |

I got DAB very early and DID like it at the higher bit rates. It was as the bit rates started to slide away that I fell out of love. Now I am much happier with what I get off Freeview (S/PDIF connection into the amplifier rather than using the box to decode). d |

I don't believe it is, once you get past the lowest quality (toy) items and 'classic' stuff (old Tannoys, for example) still makes good money. Old Tannoys stink ! If that's your idea of 'good sound' you must have stopped auditioning decent hi-fi over 30 years ago. Graham |

They seem to be pretty active. The market for audio forums has become very fragmented. No idea, I've never looked into an audio forum only photography forums, but there's *gazillions* of them, so I'm sure you're right. I don't like forums. I don't like the 'clicky' nature of most of the ones I've seen (photography) and the *hideous* 'sucky up' posts from people trying to get 'in'! (Especially when it's sucky up posts from Brits and Yanks trying to get in with raggedy-arsed, newly-bold Eurotrash!) I don't get this. All I did to get into the forums I'm on is type in my email address and a password that I made up. I also don't like those stupid little boxes you have to type in! I guess I'm a bit more flexible than that. And I *definitely* don't like being moderated - I got kicked out of the last crappy (commercially based) forum I was in by a Hungarian (would you believe?) for calling an Eyetie a 'prick'! I can believe that. It's true that most HTML forums moderate retroactively, and do expect some minimum level of adult behavior. I can see how that would be difficult for you, Keith. |

Most are full of slow to load gimmicky graphics Umm, you mean the ads? and they don't support threads as in Usenet, so it's difficult to tell who's replying to whom. Agreed. Usenet is a far better medium IMHO. I suspect that the need to configure a newgroup reader is a major technical hurdle for some. |

was simply an early adopter. I was cured of that in a big way by DAB - shelled out a fortune for an Arcam radio which now lives in a cupboard. If its any consolation you weren't the only one.. I got rid of mine, swapped it for a laptop:).. Still the Germans do MP2 transmission rather well on satellite MP2 audio at 334 K Bits:).. And 5:1 surround at 441K IIRC... so the interest I have for advancing is in recording techniques - plus of course practicing the instruments (of which I have bought a few over the last year). Now thats a good waste of time;))... -- Oh yes! d -- Tony Sayer |

Does that represent a problem to you? It's true that most HTML forums moderate retroactively, and do expect some minimum level of adult behavior. I can see how that would be difficult for you, Keith.
