Possibly the most time consuming bit is keeping all the burners fed with

There are plenty around - from the 50 disc capacity ones made by Primera
to the massive ones made by Otari.

Cheers.

James.

For most people a good quality record deck is - as near as damn it - CD
quality ;)

Besides, I think a remastered LP can *sound* better than played on a good
turntable, given proper digital filtering to remove hiss and crackle.

Using software to remove hiss'n'crackle sucks. I find the artifacts
simply unacceptable. IMNSHO, the best solution is a wet/vacuum record
cleaner and a quality turntable and stylus. Playing the recording
instead of the actual record is the most important step to having a
record in excellant shape and thus excellant recordings.

I have in some cases used s/w, but it's only for other people's records.
If any of my records got that bad, I would have replaced it long ago.

Agreed.

Agreed.

It's no big deal to minimise LP surface noise, tape hiss, FM hiss, 'mastered
in' hiss on CDs, valve hum or transistor hiss - equalisers, tone controls,
appropriate volume settings and a little extra distance from the speakers
help no end.

(Anyone who expects *all* music to have a perfectly noiseless background has
obviously never been to a live event....!!!)

Well I filled in Your Music on CD's
(
www.indicativeit.co.uk/yourmusiconcd) online order form last Thursday
morning and I got my music back this morning!

I decided to send my albums and cassettes to them by courier for piece
of mind but also to allay worries that the Postal Strike might delay
things. I requested that they sent my music and new CDs back to me by
special delivery (for which I expected to pay extra) but I got an
email from them saying that they would do this for me at no charge
because of the Postal Strike. I thought that was kind of them.

The new CDs are fine. It's great to hear my old music again - no
rewinding - easy track selection, and the sound quality is great - as
near as damm it - CD quality.

Definately use them again. I think I might get all my dad's old albums
transferred onto CD for his Christmas present!

For those who are interested, www.indicativeit.co.uk/yourmusiconcd are
now doing a Christmas, 20% off promotion until 24th Dec 2003, and so
they are now even cheaper.
