I'm having a purge and have this mic amp which someone gave to me:

http://www.moirac.adsl24.co.uk/AMP01-01.jpg

http://www.moirac.adsl24.co.uk/AMP01-02.jpg

I have never used it (too big and cumbersome) and don't know if it even
works, although I can't see why it shouldn't.

Anyhow, does anybody recognise it (Google comes up with zilch) and, if
so,
is it any good? ie worth bothering with (or eBaying) or is it destined
for
the tip?

It must be worth something.

eBay's a bit *credit crunched* these days, Iain - a lot of stuff (DVD
players for example) simply isn't worth listing.

I like the way they have stuck their label on the actual preamp chip.
I guess it is one of the PMI mic pre chips that were around a few
years ago. An SSM 2016, probably.

Thanks for the responses. I don't think I'll do any more than possibly list
it the one time on eBay to see if it goes - if not, it'll be straight in the
wheely bin!

The 5534 output buffers are an interesting touch.

Note that the port in the back for controlling phantom power is simply a
hole plug.

** The pin usage looks about right.

The 5534 output buffers are an interesting touch.

** I see a 5534 on the left used as the varaible gain stage with a 5532 on
the right for differential output - one half used as a unity gain
inverting buffer and the other as a voltage follower.

The two dark grey resistors at the back look like 0.1% precison types, for
the inverter.

Note that the port in the back for controlling phantom power is simply a
hole plug.

** Yup - no phantom 48 volt DC supply in sight.

SSVC is the Services Sound and Vision Corporation. It provides Broadcast
services to our Armed Forces, runs radio and TV stations overseas to keep
the troops informed and entertained.

The mic amp seems to have been built by Video Link Consultants of Perivale,
but it looks like they went bust in 2007

http://vlex.co.uk/vid/video-link-con...mited-55354491

A mic amp isn't terribly difficult to make, so it may well be quite good.

But not so useful without the 48V phantom.

Perhaps not, but who'd ever want to use anything other than an SM58?

The most overrated mic ever. Never the best choice and frequently the
worst. ;-)

I hope you realise it was a joke...my views of the SM58 entirely. Although,
I don't think I would have given Roger Daltrey anything else.

Well, it's jolly big for a single channel, I'll say that. Instinct suggests
it's not a great performer.

You could try ebaying it.
