Default How to disable the preamp section of an integrate

Hi,
Please let me know if this is not the right place to post.
I have a Yamaha Natural Sound Stereo Receiver RX-495 70W+70W. The
tuner only works intermittently, I am think of disabling the preamp
section and using only the power amp section, because I just acquire a
valve preamp. I remove the dust cover and find that the preamp and
power amp sections are on two different circuit boards, these are
connected with a flat 5-pin cable. Can anyone who knows this Yamaha
RX-495 tell me, that I can modify the socket of this flat cable and
connect it with my external preamp? Any advice is welcome. Thanks. I
can post picture of the circuits boards if necessary.

** That amp has a " Pure Direct " switch on the back.

Rather intrigued by the comment about the tuner though. Sounds a bit odd.
Could be just switching or it might be a dodgy transistor. I know some of
the Pioneer and Yamahas of that vintage did have the odd problem with
intermittent connections inside the body of some descrete small signal
transistors used. The symptom was crackling or just on and off working of
whatever part the culprit was in.

Hi Phil,
I follow your advice and I can use my valve pre-amp with the Yamaha,
now I have two volume controls to play with, which is a bit odd to me.
I have been enjoying music for a few hours now, just great, and many
thanks.

** Turn one of them up full - best maybe the one on the Yamaha.

Simplify you life ....
