What a silly goose I am - I meant to ask if anyone could say what the mics
were?

They look like modern SE 2000s - or the other way round:

Please don't post links to *black and white* footage that I *actually* remember.

This could be a "Where were you then?" I am sure most of us here
can remember. It was 1961. I thought HS was wonderful............

until I found Francoise Hardy. Love at first sight:-)

Yes, the French tarts of that era certainly had something...and of course you
had every chance of 'meeting' her...if your name happened to be Bob Dylan or
Mick Jagger.

Check your emails, Iain....

Found the hum on the AEG Solidtube tonight - after swapping 3 valves to no
effect, I thought it was a poor earth connection on the casing at one point
as it could be temporarily affected by gripping it here and there. Then
reading the service .pdf that someone kindly put me on to (Ian? Iain? - I'm
on a different machine, so I can't see who it was) I checked and found it
was the bass attenuation switch:

http://www.moirac.adsl24.co.uk/shown...Hum-SWitch.wav

(Switch out-switch in-switch out again.)

Then, by way of a reward, I spotted a couple of valves lying on a shelf and
picked one up - 'Flying C' Svetlana 12AX7 - nice! Then I picked up the other
one - Bingo! a **Mullard ECC83**!!

The sun always shine on the righteous, they say - let's just hope it don't
*hum*...!!!

While we're on the YouTubes, did anybody catch the *excellent* Porgy & Bess

Typing ******** as usual - its a -20 dB 'pad' switch!

OK, not so righteous it seems - the hum has become erratic and irrational
and it hums with the switch the other way now, so I guess it's gonna have to
go off for a pro repair.

(Too fiddly and will probably need parts....)

Before you send it off. A colleague tells me that this mic
has a spring through which the case is grounded.
Check that it is making good contact.

Iain
