What's around these days which is small but good? High
levels not required. Some sort of present day Goodmans
Maxim. ;-)

Is the KEF Q-series still around?

I still like to listen to my Q15s.

Would the Tannoy Mercury (FR or F1 Custom) be to
your taste?

The FRs are priced at about Euro 80, and the F1
Custom is about Euro 150 (retail) The Swedish Audio
mag "HiFi and Musik" (note Dave, how the two are
inseprable:-) judged the F1s to be the best stereo
pair under SKr 2000 (that's about Euro 200)

:-)

Slays me how every time I mention Poochie's endless *retro blogging* he
comes up with some lame 'my milkman wants a pair of small speakers' or
somesuch....

LOL!

Seemed a perfectly reasonable question, didn't mention milkmen (where did
you get that from?) and I find no connection to what you call "retro
blogging". Fortunately he had some sensible replies to his sensible
question.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

Sorry, that's not important to me....

Fortunately he had some sensible replies to his sensible

Says who - you?

OK then, perhaps you'd like to tell me what speakers I'd find suitable for,
say, Tuvan throat singing on SACD with a Musical Fidelity nuvistor stereo
amplifier in my spare bedroom???

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

Oh yes, you got that right........

Go Active. See entry in Amazon for reviews for the following.

Logitech X 230 - 2.1-channel PC multimedia speaker system - 32 Watt
(Total) £30.64 inc free shipping from Dell.

"Crank up the audio on your PC with this 2.1 speaker system and enjoy
clean, crisp, consistent sound from your games, music, and more. The
Logitech X-230's high-tech subwoofer adjusts itself dynamically to
deliver distortion-free bass. And the two wall-mountable satellite
speakers use Logitech's patented FDD2 technology to eliminate the uneven
sound response created by conventional dual-driver designs. The result:
a clear, uniform sound field without the "hot spots" and inconsistency
of other dual-driver satellites."

/me, looks around and legs it....

What for those who mainly listen to R4 etc so want good quality speech?

Since you always extol the virtues of DAB you'll no doubt be listening
to Radio 4 transmitted at 128 kbps then.

Trust you not to actually read what I've said. I do listen to R4 DAB - in
the car. At home it is via FreeView.

Presumably you'll be wanting
speakers that magically restore all the information that's lost when
broadcasting at that ****ty bit rate so you can get the 'good quality
speech' you claim to want. LMAO!

I'd love to see you reliably tell which was which on the average made in
mono R4 prog between DAB and FM in a properly conducted test.

Most can't. Despite their claims.

Interesting, but I'm willing to bet they sound crap on speech. They will
have been 'optimised' for an 'exciting' sound on games etc.

Kitty insists on hanging on my every word and trying to make 'clever'
comments, Geoff. Despite having claimed very publicly to have killfiled
me. So basically, a stalker. Who wants this group as his own blog - and to
discuss anything *but* audio. Except where it comes up as an afterthought.

Perhaps we should discuss E-Types and really confuse him. ;-)

My Kef Q Compacts get their share of voice (R4 and Formula 1 commentary).
Although I listen to what they're saying rather than what they sound like,
it all seems clean and clear to me. Comes through a Freeview box.

I think a friend has a set. He likes it a lot and uses it for editing
music video.

If 10 litre is regarded as small this is the thing to go for:
http://bildarkiv.hififorum.nu/zalve/...030%20copy.jpg
It is called piP and it is sold but not marketed by Ino Audio
just north of Stockholm, Sweden. By not marketed I mean no web,
no adds, just word of mouth.
