FWIW so far as I know correctly implimented spdif
includes a transformer or equivalent. Mainly to block
loops and common mode, but it would also block dc. So act
similarly to a dc blocking cap IIRC.


Generally the transformer also functions as a low pass filter, and helps
with passing USA FCC Part 15 EMI regulations. Bandpass is around 12 MHz.
