It's all gone very wrong for usenet.
Here in UK we now have proportional representation but
dictated by the Liberals? Who they side with results in who
is put on gardening leave and who takes the CEO chair!
This country is being run like a corporation, by a handfull of
suited pretty boys behind the scenes? Sod the voters!
Did the hobbiest Arny ever upload one of his amateur
recordings of an out of tune church choir?
If so, could someone post a link, thanks.
I'm sat here watching The Wright Stuff on UK daytime TV.
So I thought I'd have a look in these 2 groups, what a load
of ********! (These groups, not TWS which has the
delicious Anne on this morning)
I see iApple have launched a new iThingy, the NONO.
Just the size of a postage stamp, so it's smaller than the
last iThingy you bought before that became unfashionable
and impressively it only holds one song.
So rush out now to your local iStore to the whooping of
iSales-persons, and add the latest expensive iGadget to your
collection of obsolete iThings.
(Read this to iApples theme "We're in the money", download
from iToons now).
Just checking the BBC news site avoiding anything about the
UK being run as a coalition corp by pretty boys, I note we in
UK now seemingly have a health scare similar to that in
the states, in that todays UK teens are both dangerously fat
and alarmingly thin(?) and health chiefs fear an epidemic of
obesity and anorexia (Or something like that?). UK teens are
falling victim to a fatal desire to eat too much and too little,
and we are storing up a crisis for the future of the kids of
the UK, the message seems to be for Britains youth to stop
or keep eating. (I think that was the gist of the report?).
Has it got to the point that the only UK audio publication
worth reading now is HFN+RR? (I mean UK only, there is
of course Stereophile, and German and French mags that
are still worth a read)
Is there any hardware OEM producing products that ain't ugly?
Am I the only one who hasn't bought into the HD flat panel crap?
Where did it all go wrong?
OK, in six months when I've got another 30 minutes to waste
I'll check back to see if anyone was arsed to reply, so post
a link to an Arny amateur recording.
Cheers
John

Hi, well I've no idea what prompted this, but I trust you feel better for
it. The reason these groups tend not to carry a lot of stuff is many fold.
Firstly, the old folk who recall shell accounts and ascii, gopher etc, are
all dying off or watching flat panel hd displays of fat people in letter
box format
Fate has brought us together. Now we have this established stable caring
relationship tell me your favourite John Carpenter film?
Then there is google. Not happy with designing a crappy web interface for
the usenet user, they had to spy on everyones wireless routers of course.
They need this info so they can sell the data to the folk selling mobiles
who cannot be bothered to even do the job themselves. this of course means
that folk with mobiles do not have the slightest idea where they are,
proving that mobile phone radiation damages the brain.
"mobiles"? That will only confuse our stateside brethren, this is usenet
so the correct term is iCellPhone.
Of course as you're a Brit, unlike the yanks, you will be aware that
anything
with an "i" is for girls. (And Linux is for blokes who wear open-toe
sandals.)
You and I are not geezers who waste money on over-priced Wiltshire things
but build IBM based puters with pirated copies of windows and tea-leafed
software, thats what real men do.
Since my post yesterday iApple have launched another hi-tech expensive-but
soon-to-be-obsolete gadget and it's the size of a brick titled here in the
UK
iWantRefund, but in the states it's named iGullibleFoolsBuybyTruckLoad.
It's supposedly the ultimate in handheld technology, it takes photographs,
downloads music, plays video's, with access to the iwebby and Internetty.
When it fails one can then use one of their obsolete iPhones to bell
iComplaints
that the expensive iGadget is knackered, if iObsolete fails one can text to
receive iAdvice to try powering off then on again. Then here in UK and as
it is the size of a brick one can use it to hurl through the window of a
Regent street store yelling "I want my money back!"
Then most isps are trying to bury usenet as they cannot advertise on it
without spamming, and so they have turned off the servers.
Thats stateside, it was a legal case that caused USA cable ISP's to cease
usenet access with their service. You and I are Brits, I'm with BT and
usenet is bundled free. Eternal september is for murderers, I want
you to change to BT or use AIOE.
Then there are the forums. Who would have thought a messy silly everyone
is different system would be used by the masses over a simple to use low
footprint system like Usenet?
I just love it that you waited until you were no longer sober before typing
that.
This brings me back to my first point that all us old uns who used Usenet,
are either dying off or watching flat panel hd screens of dumbed down mind
blurring crap.
You've run out of steam...
Luckily I had the good fortune to go blind somewhere along the line so I
save on hd panels, google ads and lots of other stuff.
Type goople into google and see what happens...

So, Arny never did upload an example of his amateur recordings, do you
think such recordings actually exist?

Well I never! My fingers moved over the keyboard, the appropriate keys
were depressed in the specified order and the phrase;
'goople into google'
appeared on the screen.
Where did you learn how to do that?

I didn't learn it, I just typed something off the top of my head and
sure enough as this is usenet someone will try it.
I haven't tried it myself, if the result was to be mindblowing then
a thread would evolve, and then I'd try it...

The link you supplied, is it to one of Arny's uploaded recording examples?

Hey Ken, nice speakers, are they yours, do you live at No 15?
Or is that a hobby of yours - taking snaps of neighbours front
doors?
OK, after years of baiting JA in rao, Arny then claimed "professional"
status for his years of recording "experience", when challenged it
transpired that Arny had never allowed anyone to hear any of his
recordings. When cajoled and harassed, Arny implied he'd prepare
and upload an example. This was several months ago since when
most have abandoned rao, I'm just curious as to if Arny did upload
an example and if anyone has a link to it?

Yep, are you popping round for tea?
Speakers? wot speakers? I'd forgotten that pic was there, I was trying
to identify the flowering plant, it turned out to be a clivia miniata;
you will no doubt be fascinated to learn
The flower pic has now been replaced with a speaker pic as requested

Good heavens no! I'm far too busy knitting a polo neck jumper for
Geoffrey.

Oh dear, ahem, well err........
I wish you hadn't changed the pic of your front porch with potted
plants on speaker stands with this image...

Apart from throwing the whole thread off kilter it seems you have
sourced your audio hardware from Dixons circa 2001, and Argos?
But eccentrically and entertainingly you appear to have your budget
system perched upon a shelving unit sourced from a Homebase or
B&Q garden centre?
Good heavens no! I'm far too busy knitting a polo neck jumper for
Geoffrey.
How very disappointing.

Ah, got you now. I wondered where the speaker reference came from. Not
speaker stands; but the remains of a scrofulous set of discarded side
tables. And not a porch but the landing outside my bijou penthouse
apartment here in sheltered housing land.
it seems you have
sourced your audio hardware from Dixons circa 2001, and Argos?
You're 10 years out on most of it, JVC amp 1979, Denon receiver and B&W
DM620's circa 1992. Denon tuner 1988 but apparently favourably reviewed
in Stereophile. http://goo.gl/mEa8
Not visible was the Pioneer PL-112D turntable from August 1976; (you
can date it from the serial numbers).
All from fleabay and local small ads. And indeed Argos and Home
Bargains http://www.tjmorris.co.uk/ are my favoured audiophile
accessory suppliers.
Apologies for derailing the thread.
