I live in an affluent community - one of the richest in
the US. I work in the other affluent communities in
this area, some of which show up in the top 5 for the
whole country. As a rule the most wealthy of the
wealthy could care less about high end audio. Boats
and other kinds of lakeside property are far more
interesting to them. Audio is at most an, upper middle
class, new rich thing. Furthermore, few if anybody
spends the big bucks on audio-only AV systems.

difference between trying to sell something and actually

You wouldn't have to sell much of it to make a living.
The markup must be enormous.

Exactly. The most sucessful of the surviving high end dealers around here
are in the installed-system business for the carriage trade. The quote a
turnkey price for an installed system including furniture and maybe even a
little structural work. The cost of the audio components is lost in the
bottom line.

what Turdborg considers "one of the richest" communities in the U.S.
