Different Planet HiFi?
I was flicking through a magazine in a waiting room the other day that was
so current (September 2010) and so incredible I stole it! According to What HiFi Sound & Vision's 'Ultimate Guide to High End' the world's 'best kit' includes items priced as follows: Digital Media Player - Meridian Soolos 2.1 @ £7,000 CD Players - Naim CD555/555PS @ £16,395 Stereo Amplifiers - Plinius Tautoro/SA-Ref @ £18,975 Speakers - Wilson Audio Duette @ £11,950 Turntables - Clearaudio Innovation Wood/Universal/DaVinci V2 @ £12,900 And that's only the 'hifi', the AV section goes even wilder - the B&W CT800 speaker system @ £67,950 fr'instance! Now we know what some of those Bankers' Bonuses go on.... :-) |

Now we know what some of those Bankers' Bonuses go on.... :-) Indeed. I well remember shooting part of The Bill in a penthouse on the river near overlooking the Houses of Parliament. Had this sort of thing. Sounded truly dreadful due to the acres of bare glass and solid wood floors. Nor was there any 'sweet point' seating between the speakers - and the screen wasn't between the main pair either. There was a brand new Harley mounted on the wall, though. The fire brigade winched it in at a reputed cost of 5 grand... Might have some pics somewhere. -- *According to my calculations, the problem doesn't exist. I know a banker person - he's more houses and cars. I don't think he has a hifi as such. In fact i've no idea what he does with his money - his houses and cars roughly equal a year's 'salary' and he's been doing it a while. All bonkers anyhow. Rob |

Now we know what some of those Bankers' Bonuses go on.... I live in an affluent community - one of the richest in the US. I work in the other affluent communities in this area, some of which show up in the top 5 for the whole country. As a rule the most wealthy of the wealthy could care less about high end audio. Boats and other kinds of lakeside property are far more interesting to them. Audio is at most an, upper middle class, new rich thing. Furthermore, few if anybody spends the big bucks on audio-only AV systems. |

I'd expect an ear transplant and a live in engineer for that money.
Of course you forgot the important part, the specially designed house with listening room and the special cables to connect it all up. Then you have the special mains wiring and filtering to consider. What about Radio? It would surely be cheaper to book the acts you like to listen to and have them perform, just for you. If that truly was true though nobody would be selling them, now would they?
