All integrated in an ABS plastic housing. Now isn't ABS a rigid plastic so
an vibrations would be propagated through it and around the spike thus
negating the any isolation of the spike.

"Attach a self adhesive felt pad to the bottom" now this will of course
ensure the maximum coupling of the concentrated "better contact with the
surface on which the unit stands."

No doubt you can enhance the look of the product by suitably polishing with
snake oil.
