Because the marketing boys won't let it!!

I post these comparison tracks for my son:

28.5 Meg original:

also boxsets with DVD's and blu ray's as extra discs of DSTOM, WYWH and
the Wall. The boxsets are £100 each at Amazon !!

There was a slot on R4 the other day, and it seems some people are
starting to try to understand why all this is happening. This particular
piece, centring on sound quality, suggested the crackle/pop/'warmth'
created something approaching 'authentic' - that is, matched an
expectation of what the sound should be like, especially for older
recordings. And this made the experience of listening to music more
enjoyable.

Dunno. Not complaining mind :-)

Sounds more like denial to me. ;-)

I hope you listen to R4 on AM complete with whistles etc for that
authentic enjoyable experience...

I agree completely: If I put a CD on I find that pretty soon I am ignoring
it. The extra 'presence' on vinyl, including 'audience participation', gives
me more a sense of 'being there' than any so-called (perceived/imagined)
equipment 'accuracy' and keeps me engaged! (That and the knowledge I've got
to pick the arm up at the end of the side! :-)

Perfect example: I have no end of Lionel Hampton records where the (seated
at tables eating and drinking, I suspect) audience positively *roars* at
times - then LH comes in to grab it all back and take it down to
breathtaking, 'single note' solos in a perfectly silent and 'dark'
atmospherewhen he wants to! Superb!

Go see the lady with obviously dyed black hair in the St Neots Help The Aged
charity shop - she does *exactly that* and is (was, when we last spoke) not
interested in FM at all.

Are you suggesting that no CD has ever been issued of a live recording with
an audience? If not how come you claim "audience participation" as a "vinyl
extra"?

Was this the programme called "78 revolutions" about modern fans of shellac
discs? Listening to these people reminded me so much of the vinyl fans here.
It was difficult to disentangle the liking for the records as objects and
for the sort of music found on such discs from the claims of superior sound
quality due to the higher speed.

Are you suggesting that no CD has ever been issued of a
live recording with an audience? If not how come you
claim "audience participation" as a "vinyl extra"?


I think he's talking about him as the audience, and his participation as
being the usual vinyl cleaning and preening ritual.
