often appear in many 'versions' on the web. Sometimes without details

Do you really expect a dealer to enter into all this exchange of fine
detail, for the sale of few jazz records, especially when you, yourself,
haven't the first notion on the jazz genre?

Maybe, half expect such and exchange of email, if your request was for
rare collectible vinyl recordings, but from your original post you
appear to be seeking out SACDs and/or "the more unusual or 'audiophile'
items" how many different (geeky) versions of those exist??

A simple search at **AllMusic should reveal most artist's full
discography (main albums, compilations, singles/eps, DVD and other)
along with release dates, track lists, label releases, catalogue number
and all versions and format releases. AllMusic will also provide an
overview of the artist, reviews on most releases, album credits,
composers, and other recordings in which the track appears. Plus vast
amounts of information even for the most anal amongst us.
