..... But as you are all clueless you probably didn't know,
but Hi-Fi Choice magazine is on it's last legs and may
soon kick the bucket:

Also this, it's claimed to be a "merger", but plenty of cynics
think this will be toodle pip to ugly Wiltshire shoeboxes as
seemingly the new merged company will only have the frog
brand in the title?

This has annoyed gullible purist audiophiles, is there a
difference budget and esoteric:

Not clear why the undifferentiated "all" you refer to should know or care
if we don't read any of the magazines listed as being affected. There are
probably hundreds of other mags I never read and have no interest it. :-)

I checked the page, though, and didn't see 'Linux Format' mentioned. That's
the only 'Future' title I have an interest in reading. Would be a shame to
lose that just when they've started a series on 'C'.

Of course, there can be a big difference between 'closed' and 'sold'.
Publishers are sometimes strapped for cash and flog off magazines that are
quite viable when run by someone else. 'International' publishers can do
this in a fairly dimwitted way when they need to raise cash, so sell off
seed corn without knowing/caring. No idea if this could be shortened to
'corn' for HFC, though, as I don't read it. ;-

Also this, it's claimed to be a "merger", but plenty of cynics think

merged company will only have the frog brand in the title?

My personal reaction is rougly as above. I'd assume that what-was-Naim will
go on making electronic kit. But I've had no interest in them since the
days I decided I prefered power amps that were unconditionally stable and
had a fairly flat response and low output impedance. So as with the above,
I'm content to leave any worry to someone else who may care. :-)

Gosh! I'm now worried that the Daily Mail may have written something I
might agree with. That really *is* an alarming prospect! Thank heaven I
don't use HDMI at all and have no interest in 'HDTV'... ;-

Slainte,

Jim

I love this one:

"I've tried both cheap and expensive leads between my blu-ray and TV
and I can certainly tell the difference. OK, I've never seen the need
to spend GBP 100+ on a lead but you can definitely tell the difference
between a Tesco value branded HDMI lead at around GBP 2 and an average
priced one from Currys at around GBP 20. Anyone that can't tell the
difference needs to have their eyes examined."

.... to which the obvious response is that anyone who thinks there is
a difference needs their head examined!

Andrew.

Probably good news for the remaining survivors.

Interesting turn of the words - Naim equipment as Wiltshire Shoeboxes.

In the US Radio Shack, Best Buy and the like shove overly expensive HDMI
cables down their customer's throats by simply stocking nothing else. It is
alleged that much of their margins per HD equipment sale comes from the
cables.
