Been trying to sort a pair of Celestion Ditton 15, one of which is
distorting. It's a sort of squawk excited by certain types of material -
mainly female vocals. Covering the tweeter removes it - as well as the
HF of course. The tweeter is an HF1300, so had it apart and examined the
coil for signs of damage - but it looks ok (I have a new spare diaphragm
assembly for my BC1 to compare it with). Anything in a crossover that
could cause this?
Don't know anything about the specific crossover. But my first thought was
a rectifying bad joint in the system. Does the unit tend to move in or out
when the 'squawk' happens? It may be that bipolar electrolytic caps could
do this as well, I guess. But I haven't encountered the problem.
