Default Spindle idler for Technics RS-BX606

As subject line, I have one of these cassette decks sitting around with
a broken tooth on the spindle idler. (It's 20 years old so has probably
gone a bit brittle). This causes a jolt every revolution which upsets
the sound.

Any ideas where I'd be able to a. find out what the part number is, and
b. source one for a reasonable cost? (Our local repair shop closed down
many years ago sadly, as they would have happily loaned me the service
manual to locate the part number then sourced the part for me.)

Would love to get this deck fixed as it's a pretty decent 3-head with
direct drive capstan motor. Have got some historic recordings I'd like
to get archived to CD.

Thanks in advance.

Ebay, Oxfam, Freecycle. Get another deck; good cassette decks are worthless.
Or probably any other broken Technics deck will have a similar part.

You sure there's no service manual available - I've old Sony and Denon
tape decks and they are freely available.

I've been quite enjoying going through a couple of bags of cassettes I'd
archived. Festive Fifty, Gideon Coe's old GLR show, marvellous.

Nakamichi and to a lesser extent top end Sonys and so on still go for a
few quid - £100+. One like yours £30-odd on ebay.

A good bet if you're determined to keep it going. You'll find common
parts within a range - so many of the early 90s decks might do it. But
you'll need service manuals to be sure.

There is a service manual, but I don't have one. I have seen it as the
local place used to have a copy. (I managed to grab about 3 dozen
service manuals when they shut down but the '606 wasn't among them sadly.)

I know the 606 and 707 shared a transport, as did the slightly newer 626
and 727 (the x2x series had an IR remote sensor, the x0x didn't have it
fitted although it's tracked out on the circuit board).

The 808 / 828 models had a dual-capstan transport, but without opening
up the 606 I can't remember whether there's a space for the second
capstan motor in it. I suspect the idler is the same part though.

Managed to find one:

Can download the manual for free as a PDF.
