If you mean amplitude compression, you bet: see for example
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war.

popular music cds and hear the swizzle effects.


Though if you do mean data compression, that's slightly surprising,
though not that much )-:.

Noisettes for example, but not on all the tracks on all the cds.
