GL75 info ...
What you on about? I got mine changed early on, did not like the rubber
bearings.
Also it kept on getting flats on its vertical idler.
I went to a Thorens with sme, then when I could not use it any more due to
my sight, to a Technics auto with concorde style Orto fon cart.
That still works though the tracking arm needs to be regreased.

Can anyone tell me the length of the straight part of the Goldring Lenco
GL75 plug-in lateral bias arm, and the distances between the rings cut
into it? Don't need it exact to the decimal. 'Near enough' will be 'good
enough'.
Or better yet, anyone got one kicking about that they want rid of ?

Yes, very nice Brian, but as I'm sure you will remember from UK DIY if you
put your mind to it, I repair this stuff for a living. I have had one come
in from a shop. It has sentimental value to its owner, and they want it
restored. The V-block bearings are indeed bolloxed, but replacements for
those are available at a reasonable price. However, the lateral bias arm and
the corkscrew weight hanger are both missing. I found one of them - maybe
both I can't remember now - being sold by someone on Fleabay, but the prices
were ridiculous. So if I can't find any originals cheap, I will make them.
Hence the request on here ...

How do you lose such things. How odd.

Not really. Both items are just pieces of shaped wire. The lateral bias arm
just plugs into a hole in the top of the tone-arm pivot block, and the
hanger corkscrew clips to the fixed part of the lateral bearing block with a
sort of plastic Terry clip. The bias weight itself is just a small
cylindrical 'pellet' that hangs via a loop tied in the end of a piece of
fishing line.
Considering that the deck is more than 40 years old, and has probably had a
checkered storage history since the current owner's father (the original
owner) died, then I don't find it surprising at all that parts are missing.
It is also fitted to a hand-crafted plinth that apparently the owner's
father made himself, and the bottom of it is open. The wiring from the arm
is damaged, and the phono cables are missing, presumably having been torn
off at some point because the bottom is open.
Many people have kept quality decks like this, stored away for many years,
and with the current revival in vinyl, I see probably two or three a month
on average that vary between just requiring a general check over and
service, to needing a major rebuild as this one does. Having parts missing
is by no means uncommon, I can assure you, Brian ...
