I know, but clearly they are still making a profit at that price.
There can't be so many middle men between them and Maplin. Someone
somewhere is getting very rich.

It was explained to be that Maplin charge like this to cover the cost of
the assistant walking to the shelf to get your resistor. In which case
they could sell them in packets of 10 at the same price and keep everyone
happy.
