Beringer sound card on usb issue
 

Hi I have bought from amazons one of their sound adaptors with phonos on the
back in the hope of being able to use it for recording line level stuff, and
output line level stuff. Info is quite vague on the instruction leaflet, but
it suggests it has a cd with it, but none was sent as it seems to work when
you plug it in. Or should I say not work.
The output from the phone output sockets seems to be very low indeed so am
I missing something here. I note it has an input switch which seems to allow
a standard pick up to be used or line level signals. It also has an output
for headphones with a volume, but surely the output from the phono out
sockets should be at least as loud as the socket on the original internal
sound card?

Am I missing something vital??

The drivers from the Behringer web site?

Also if you're using Windows 7, the volume control/mixer is a nightmare.

Hard to comment since you don't give the actual model number.

However I've tested a couple of their USB ADCs/DACs and given results here

I think Eiron has the answer. I had the same level problems with a
Beringer UFO202 audio interface until I installed some drivers for the
device. I just checked the UFO202 page and it says that manual and
software needs to be downloaded from their site.

At the moment I'm running it on a laptop running xp.
It says it should just work when plugged in, whell it does but at a low
level.

This seems to have the number 21 in its name, so I guess I'll have to go to
the site to get the drivers then, otherwise I guess its just fixed at
whatever its default is.

Curious. My impression when I tried the ones I 'reviewed' was that they
were class 1 and didn't require a 'driver'. Worked fine with Linux and RISC
OS out of the box. Mind you, Class 2 devices also work OK without drivers.
That's what happens when the OS producers actually impliment the agreed
standards!

I'll need the 7 ones too as I have a machine running that. Would you not
think it might prompt for an installation for new hardware?

I can't be sure without checking. But I don't recall its USB interface
providing any gain settings. So the problem may be with the 'mixer' in your
OS, not the device.

I recently bought a toslink to phono adaptor that ran off USB volts (5v)
And the output from that was low too.
