A new remote control?
 

Any decent universal will allow you to program it from it from the
existing
remotes using the 'nose to nose' method

Err... I realise that, hence I'm wanting one.

What I need is a low down on the various types available. Philips, for
instance, do one which retails at over £200. I don't mind paying that sort
of dosh but is it worth it?

In my opinion it's not, but I imagine this will be a matter of
preference. Having owned a Philips Pronto for a while now I find I
really don't like LCD touch screen input and am intending to replace it
with a hard key control sometime soon, many folk however, love said
remote.

Having not used any other universal remotes I'm not really in a position
to advise, but can point you towards a good information source

Christ no.

You can buy a PDA for less than 200ukp and that can be a proper
universal remote AND a whole lot more.

I've got the Wharfedale (the blue one) one from Richer Sounds for
about 70 quid. It's narrow enough that you can hold it with one hand
and use it. It has Touchscreen keyboard. Programs nicely and works all
6 of my boxes.

£20 worth of universal remote will not work with most of what I've got
because they're only progranned with big standard studd like Philips,
Panasonic, etc. Once you go upmarket they will not work.
For what I want I'll need something programmable.
