They're about the right size for my system and room (Arcam Alpha 9,
Arcam Diva CD82) but I want something that won't sound boomy near a
wall (about 12 inches away). I had to return a pair of B&W CDM 1's for
that reason.

Or maybe someone could recommend something similar - I just love the
maple burr finish of the Quads.

Did not sound lively enough , very compressed sound , bass was lacking , not
very detailed , I think the term is
" warm " , I just didn't like them . It could have been the dealers demo
room & maybe I ought to have tried a home demo but I had lost interest by
then . . The point I was trying to make was that rave reviews didn't make
me buy them at all , you have got to listen to them in your own home if
possible , its the only way .The finish on them was superb though
