Hi

I'm considering a pair of Quad 11L speakers to upgrade my current
system. They get rave reviews in all the mags but has anyone on here
actually heard a pair?

I have a pair connected to a Rotel RA-02 and its matching CD player. I
think they are great but they do need to be kept off the rear wall. I
think with speakers more than any other product you must listen to them
first.

I also have a pair, connected to a Quad 303, and I would agree that
they do need to be kept away from the rear wall and especially
corners.

That said, I tried a comparison between the 11L and the 57
electrostatics in my living room. I also compared them to Stax
electrostatic headphones, costing about twice as much as the speakers,
when I auditioned them.

The 11L came out surprisingly well in both cases and I would have no
hesitation recommending them if they suit your room and your musical
tastes. (They are probably not the best speaker if you like loud heavy
metal; but are very good for 'classical' music.)

My description of the sound is that they are neutral, like the
electrostatics, but lacking their openness and clarity - like the vast
majority of moving coil speakers.

For the price they are, in my view, excellent.

If you do get a pair, don't forget to get some stands for them.
(Atacama stands filled with sand work for me.) They will not perform
well on a shelf close to a wall.
