Default Phono Pre-Amp bass missing in action?

Now I've got my turntable sorted, although I'm spinning my discs via PC
& headphones, the bass just sounds absent. Is this a common theme with
budget phono-stages. (esp the Maplins one?).

Come to think of it, would an external stage of say £40-50 be better
than the one installed inside my old Cambridge Audio A500 ?

No the bass was anything but absent on the clips you posted - no
problem at all. The stage in your Cambridge is actually very good
indeed.

Spend your money on a decent pair of headphones, and you won't find
them in a computer shop - you do need to go to a Hi Fi shop for them.
When choosing go for comfort if you intend to listen for long periods.
