The lift mechanism should rotate all the way round on a screw-thread, so
you can adjust it for height by one thread per revolution. You will,
however, have to raise the arm as much as you can out of the base to do
this. If it's just touching, then one turn should do it. For safety, I
would remove the counterweight assembly and the arm tube before doing
this.

Actually, you will have to remove the counterweight assembly so that the
lift mechanism can go round as otherwise it will foul the weights. Still
remove the arm tube for safety though.

Yep, worked a treat :-) I had to remove the pinch bolt through the lift
mechanism clamp and lightly spread the gap with a fine screwdriver and
then it would rotate freely. About 1.5 turns was perfect to get suitable
clearance.

I re-installed the rubber dampener and the arm now drops straight as well.

By the way, original Shure styli are now rarer than hen's teeth as they
stopped making them some years ago. If you find you don't want the V15V ,
