** The issue here is NOT what someone might **choose** to do in the
privacy of their own workshop - but rather one of folk instructing
someone via a public forum ( hence ANYONE) to build an unsafe electrical
device that would not be permitted on sale BECAUSE it is unsafe.

To be legally sold a thing needs to be more than just safe, it needs type
approval. It's not the type approval that makes it safe, that is just a
confirmation that the authorities accept that it, and all those exactly like
it, are safe.

A home built item may well be perfectly safe, as long as it is done in a
competent manner. It is also perfectly legal (in the UK at least) though the
constructor then takes full responsibility for it.

I did NOT "instruct" anyone to build anything. On the contrary I told the OP
that he should leave well alone. In his case he clearly has neither the
knowledge nor the skill to do the job properly

I use my real name on usenet, so do you and many others - so are legally
responsible for what we post.

Indeed.

It is just NOT ON for any poster to declare he has no concern for
safety laws as the ****wit OP just did here.

I agree totally.

David.
