The other exciting innovation at Zavvi Manchester is that they have a
sign up saying they won't accept gift vouchers. Even the ones they sold
in the run-up to Christmas.

I have a friend whose birthday is 4th Dec. He received a Zavvi voucher
for his birthday that the local branch won't take. KM was in Zavvi
about a fortnight before Christmas and tried to buy a gift voucher, only
to be told they were out of stock, and `unlikely to have any more before
Christmas'. Hence, once retailers started to fail, she was touting
Zavvi as the next one to go, and only a couple of days later, she was
right.

You can see sales of gift vouchers dropping off completely. The post-
Christmas crowds were probably people desperate to offload them ASAP,
regardless of whose they were.
