Default Zavvi Manchester has Kraftwerk Vinyl Albums!

Was in there yesterday and picked up new, shrink-wrapped vinyl copies
of "Radioactivity" (already had it 2nd hand from about 10 years or more
ago), and "Trans-Europe Express". £7 each, perfect shrink-wrapped condition.
They also had "The Man-Machine", but I didn't bother, cos already got that
on vinyl too.

Just in case anyone else out there has got a decent turntable and likes
Kraftwerk!

There were plenty of copies of each, too.

A brand-new "Radioactivity" is gonna sound BRILLIANT!

(And yes, I have a CD copy too, but for pre-CD stuff, vinyl is how it was
MEANT to be listened too, completely irrespective of the CD's technical
superiority, and let's not go there now, ok?)

I also got Floyd "Atom Heart Mother" on CD for 3.99 and "The Division Bell"
for 4.99. (Already had those too, but only copies from a friend, so I feel
less guilty now!)

Not sure when Zavvi Manchester is closing though.

The other exciting innovation at Zavvi Manchester is that they have a
sign up saying they won't accept gift vouchers. Even the ones they sold
in the run-up to Christmas.

Umm that strikes me as illegal.

It's for real, though. Presumably once the company is in admin, the
bearer of a gift voucher is just another creditor---and they'll be a
long, long way down the list.

Yes, I can see that once the company is in administration, but as things
stand the refusal to accept the voucher as payment strikes me as
obtaining money by deception.

They seem to have ring-fenced funds to handle full refunds for late gift
vouchers---it's in the `special message' on the website. It seems to
relate to the failure of Entertainment UK, not to Zavvi directly, so the
relevant date is 27th Nov 2008. For vouchers acquired prior to that
date, you're an unsecured creditor. From that date until 4th Dec, when
they stopped selling vouchers, you get a full refund.

Situation evidently complicated by outsourcing to another failure, OSLT.

There'll be some smallprint somewhere I'm sure, but it certainly seems
well dodgy

No more dodgy than people who had ordered and paid in advance for goods
which they then didn't receive after the firm went into liquidation, as
happened not so long ago when one of the big furniture warehouses went bust.
In that case some people were down thousands, not just the odd few quid.

There's nothing illegal about it, it's the way that limited liability works.

David.
