I'm not happy at using a change in format as the way to make this
communication, especially if that leaves CD as the "junk" format
destined
to carry all the over-compressed rubbish. CD is a good format, I don't
want to see it thrown away that way.

CD is not a good format other than as a disposable one-time 'carrier';

Hardly "one-time", CD is a robust medium.

I think it had its uses, and now its time is up. 'One-time' means write
once, not read.

I find it more than curious that some vinyl fans are so keen to dismiss
the
CD as "obsolete". As though the CD is the "enemy" which has to be got rid
of
as quickly as possible, even though the "replacements" of the CD are also
digital.

That sounds a little paranoid. Why do CD bigots automatically see
*opposition* between CDs and vinyl? You are aware that many (probably most)
vinyl enthusiasts also play and probably enjoy CDs...??

(As I have said before, even *I* have several hundred of the bloody things
lying about, here and there!! :-)

Oh, and I don't think Keith meant what you say he did by "one-time
'carrier".

You are correct - I was meaning that a CD is a fine way to get the music
home (via the CI, naturally) when you would naturally rip it into your music
store. I gather the thing is to buy the things cheap on eBay, rip them to
hard disk and/or copy them then punt them back out on eBay. It's a cheap way
of building up a library.

I have 18,657 music tracks (mostly 256K) in 2,305 'folders' on hard disk -
almost all ripped from CD into Sound Forge, where you get to *see* the
compression! Absolute waste of time and effort - I have no need of 'music on
the go' and they only get used for the occasional 'name that tune' games
here!

My main source of music, I hafta say, is the radio - in terms of time spent
listening!
