Default help fitting my 1st radio

im trying to wire a goodmans cd player (model GCE 7000 CD) in to my
car but im having trouble any pointers its my 1st wiring job.

the car is an 86 ford escort with the factory fitted radio still in
it.

the factory fitted radio only has 4 wires for power (one brown one
yellow one re one red and white) and i can hook them up to the new
radio ok.

my trouble lies in the speakers. there is just 4 cables coming out of
the back of the factory radio left +, - and the right +, - these go
into the deep into the console (great ford enginering for u) and then
there 6 wires in the back of the joystick for balance control! 4 into
6 so no idea whats going on there
the new radio has 8 wire for the speakers front right and left +,-
back right and left +,-.

so my question is this can i connect the speakers directly to the
speaker wires coming out of the back of the new unit??? or do i have
to try and somehow wire the eight speaker cables into the 4 wires
already in the car??? or do i do something else?????

cheers in advance
si

I am not familiar with your HU, but assuming it has the option to bridge

the
4 channels to 2, I would do this, check in the destruction book. Then

simply
leave the factory balance control in place and use the 4 wires of the
factory loom to connect to the appropriate wires at the HU.

Under no circumstances would I recommend doing the above (Sorry Tim!).

My apologys. I was not aware of the Ford earthing system used on this car,
ignore my advice! I had a 90 Escort which didnt have the fader, but regular
wiring, and was basing my suggestion on that!!

Yeah i got fm radio at last cheers guys!!!

fitted the radio in the car this week and it works a dream. well
works as long as the car isnt moving (jumpy cd and crap fm reception).

just need to fix the unit in slightly more firmly i think and double
check all the connection to sort out the reception and jumpy cd.

in the end i did have to lay new cables from the speakers to the HU
and completely disregard the old wires.

does this Escort have the aerial in the back window heating element? If so
you need to hook up the small red wire to the electric aerial terminal on
the HU so it powers up the aerial amp in the tailgate.

If its still crap then the cable has broken where it passes through the
hinge area. Mine did twice - £37 to Mr Ford each time for a new cable front
to back! then i got fed up and fitted a bosch bee sting in the roof (aka VW)
and FM reception was better than it ever had been.
