I have a JVC car cd/radio cant remember model number.. Its fitted in a
Peugeot 206 1.9TD. All the wires are correctly fitted and secure, but when
the ignition is sometimes turned on/off the stereo makes a cracking noise
then the screen goes blank, then after a few seconds (About 30) the stereo
will work again, with all the preset radio stations reset. All I can presume
that happens is that a power surge causes the radio to reset..

What I want to know is, is there a device (and where can I get it from) that
can fit in-between the car and radio to control a power surge,

You could try a capacitor. Thier to store power from the battery for your
subs because they hit so hard it's bad for your battery. Maybe you could
get a really cheap one and use that so it wont skip out on ya.

Hi Oli,

You're looking for something called and MOV, metal oxide varistor.
It's a cheap two pin passive device that is high impedence under
normal conditions, and will short during high-voltage conditions.
MOV's can be purchased at varying clamping voltages (Voltage where mov
starts to clamp....). They're easy to install because their connected
in parallel.

See panasonic or littlefuse for mov's. I would first check how
'constant' is the 12V supply before installing these.
