Default MP3 Head Unit Recommendations

OK guys,

Need an MP3 head unit, must do WMA, MP3 (well duh...), variable bit rates,
bit rates up to 320 would be nice, a remote would be cool, as would an input
(but not necessary), 4 x 50w min, obviously anything that conforms to the
above spec will have the necessary outputs for sub/amp etc i assume? No
more than £200.

Not looking for the best obvioulsy cos i only have £200, but summet good

Recommendations? I have Pioneer speakers all round, and a Pioneer head unit
right now that i've been very happy with, so i would like to stay with
Pioneer, although that will only influence my choice in a same spec same
price, pioneer or another situation

TIA.

In that case, perhaps you should take a look at Pioneer's range for specs,
and check out some retailers to see what you can afford.

Are you able to get down to your local ICE shop, or even a Halfords? Seeing
and hearing a few such head units for yourself would help you to draw your
own comparisons in addition to any recommendations you might get. Also could
be worth seeing if any of the ICE mags have a relevant head unit roundup.

I know it's not what you're after, but I've had a Kenwood KDC-MP6090R for
about two and a bit years now, and it's ****ing superb. Cost me £300 I
think, but that was when MP3 CD players first came out. Works fine, seems to
play anything, sounds great, bit slow doing the initial disc check, but
otherwise it's fabulous.

I've just put it in the Alfa and it sounds rather lovely, even through the
standard speakers.
