Default Audio Input

Hi, The quality of my current headphone jack-to-cassette adapter is poor,
and so I am looking for a car radio that has a line-in, but either I am
not searching for the right phrases, or such a thing doesn't exist. I am
wanting to plug in any such device - walkman, minidisc, portable MP3
player, etc - so that I can listen to it through the car speakers.

Is there such a thing or must I put up with the cassette interface?

TIA.

Theres loads of headunits with line in or "audio in" as i'd call it. You
normally need to buy a lead to go with the headunit which is sometimes
costly this lead then allows rcas to be attatched. With alpine this lead
costs £20 bit i no with sony its over £50.
Dunno how others work but with alpine the lead connects to where the cd
changer would normally connect.
Line ins normally only come on higher end units. Think £150+

That's what I'm after. A standard 3.5mm stereo to 3.5mm stereo lead
doesn't cost that much (doesn't cost anything if you already have one
:-)). The cheapest one of these that I've seen is an SPLR4something for
around £50 at 'the local garage'. However, I will try another cassette
interface at first to see if the sound quality is good enough before
spending more money on extra equipment. Do you know if there is any real
difference in sound quality between the 3.5mm line-in and cassette? I have
heard that there isn't much difference at all, but am sceptical.

Thanks.

My old crap box of a Renault 21 has Renault head unit (Phillips I think) and
it has a 3.5mm line in socket on the front which I play my portable cd
through. The quality is freat, except the level is much lower than the radio
so when I switch from Radio to the cd I have to yank the volume up quiet a
bit, then remember to turn it back down before I switch off otherwise I get
deafened next time I start the car!
So if you're after something cheap then why not go for a second hand unit.
Give ebay a good lookin at, loads on there.
