Default A van install

Well guys i'm looking for some advice for an install in a mk3 astra van. No
i dont want 22 subs and a squillion watts of bass just a nice sensible
system on a maximum budget of 5-600 pounds I already have a rather nice
blaupunkt head unit(although i'm still bitter i'll need to buy a pre out
cable) and a nice pair of genesis P16's which i'm thinking of putting in the
front doors.

was thinking along the lines of maybe a pair of 6x9's in the tailgate and a
single or pair of 12" subs behind the seats(custom enclosure as theres space
for a rear bench there(if i work it tight i can persex over the subs and
keep maximum loadspace which would be a bonus.

seconldy any thoughts on soundproofing the van? i'm going to start boarding
it this weekend then carpet it but any thoughts would be most welcome

Ta Rob

Firstly I wouldnt bother with anything in the back, it'll only muddy the
whole sound.

What are P16's? Are they component or co-ax's?

Get the right speakers in the front doors, properly mounted and suitable
dynomat etc lining the doors to stiffen them up You may need some MDF work
to get the speakers mounted at the right depth and solid enough. The mid
bass drivers should be roughtly at knee height with some separate tweeters
(unless you must use co-axials) slightly forward to your head and at around
shoulder height aimed at about 45deg across the diagonal of the van.

Get a 3 channel amp, set the high pass filter at around 90-120hz for the
front two channels and add a 10-12inch sub of design to suit your music
taste to the other channel set on low pass .

Spend an hour setting it all up with regard to EQ and crossovers and gain,
and you should have a simple yet cracking system.

I feel that with a van your problem is going to be stopping all the panels
vibrating without adding so much matting it'll hardly move.

Tim..
