For the first time in my life I went into the local branch of Lidl (cheapo
German supermarket) this morning for a £38 DVDP for my son. (He's addicted
to them). None on display so I asked a girlie who was shelf-filling nearby -
she whisks me off to another little feller who says 'black or silver?' and 2
minutes later I've got a DVDP for chump change spec'd like a good 'un - see:
http://www.lidl.co.uk/gb/index.nsf/p...5.p.DVD_Player)
Smiling faces all round, much arch whispering about 'multiregion' - even the
checkout girl has bought 4 of 'em herself for Xmas prezzies apparently! A
thoroughly satisfying 'Retail Therapy' session - most pleasant!
(My son tells me that a store that had had 120 of these in opened at 8
o'clock and had sold them all in 20 minutes this morning, if you go in for
one and there's none on display - ASK!)
Why bother to post this? - Before I went over to the town, just to 'double
check', I phoned the local hifi/appliance store and spoke to my *own*
audiophile mate Shiny Nigel who quoted me full fekkin' retail on a Panasonic
player with no sign of any discount whatsoever offered - and I've spent a
few thou in that place in the last few years!
**** 'em! - From now on I will buy anywhere I can for the cheapest deals -
eBay, the Net, whatever (especially if it's digital)!
(They say the Japs killed the Brit motorcycle industry - they didn't! They
say the Net is killing high street stores - it ain't.......)
Now, I hear you ask 'is it any good?' - No idea yet, ain't even opened the
box. I'll report here later.
