Well, you can call me a 'gippo' then! - For a Monday morning, the total
absence of the usual 'tireditis' and 'cluelessness' that I have come to
expect from the local TV/hifi shops has made me an instant Lidl fan!

(Also,
I ain't too posh to get a 'bargain', if bargain it truly is!)

I'll join the 'gippo' club. I bought 3 of these yesterday. Initially I
bought one as a gift for a friend for Christmas but after a quick test
to check it was all working I bought another two, one to relace my
recently purchased DreamX108 Chinese cheapie and one, well, erm.. for

spare!

:-)

Incidentally, in my Lidl it all kicked off when a man grabbed the last 5
players and headed to the tills - several words were exchanged and it
looked like it'd come to blows. Seeing as it was Lidl the staff didn't
bat an eyelid :-)

SOP in any St Neots store..... :-)

(Clue: St Neots was originally called Butte****e in the Doomsday Book....)

Very best audio I've heard in a long while from a silver disk spinner

and
movies are *at least* as good as I've seen on quite a variety of DVDPs.
Colour and sharpness are superb and would not disappoint at several

times
the proce - make that 10 (or more) times the price!

Proce?

**Doesn't claim to play -R or +R disks but we've found that it will do

so
perfectly with the *exception* of JVC -Rs - it just don't like these!

(Not
sure what dye - JVC's own??)

Apparently the dye is by Maxell, but Maxell's own disks play perfectly OK in
it.

Handles unbranded +r and -R with ease too

Even the zapper is much more stylish than one would expect at this

price,

Hmm - the remote's horrid. Like a 1980's Bush portable remote

You shut yer face, I *like* 80s 'Bush' styling.....

as
is the generous and well-presented manual which runs to no less than 65
full-size A4 pages! The top half of the player is a 'dead chick' mirror
finish, so here's a couple of no-flash pix for anyone who's interested:

Mine's the black version - at last a black dvd player! I'm sick of the
silver trend!

I can't see the bloody buttons on black kit....... :-(

Well, I ain't never seen shaved up one side only - that'd be sight! :-)

Speaking 'a posteriori', the 'whole hog' is rather nice, but not quite so
cute when it becomes 'hedgehog' again........

;-)

If you can get one, you may buy with confidence! (Stand on me.....)

Seconded - a proper bargain.

Also worth a quick mention is that a few seconds 'thumbwork' on the remote
and it can be quickly made 'region free' and the Macrovision disabled.....

:-)

Hi

I got one of these machines last week, well actually no my wife went
to Lidl at 8.15am and queued up for one and she was the first in there
so managed to get the preferred colour (black), sick of silver.

When I arrived home from work, it had already been region freed by my
wife and the Macrovision was disabled, and she was happily playing her
jpegs on it anmd then watched her Region 1 films.

We have a Creative Desktop Theatre 5.1 speaker system and that had
been set up and the sound quality was good if not better than the
Goodmans DVD3000 player we had replaced (that had the DTS/5.1 decoder
and cost us £150, but didnt play CDRs, VCDs, or anything else from bog
standard DVDs and CDs).

Its a solid little machine with solid clicky buttons, not those naff
"not sure if you have pushed" buttons, the remote is big but okay, it
does its job.

So all in all Im very happy with this machine, and plus it doesnt
stick out like a sore thumb in my TV cabinet (apart from the little
red light).
