Now that the new uk.rec.audio.vinyl newsgroup is off to a good start (no
small miracle in itself as it appears no-one much can access it yet) the
time has come for me to consider my own options.

Assuming I ever get to see it on my own Provider's list (or
news.cis.dfn.de/news.individual.net ever get back to me with my lost login
details) I think it is time to ask myself the 'should you be here?'
question.

Well, as I have no interest whatsoever in cables, soundcards, mastertapes
(other than in a strictly 'vinyl' context) or Arcam products (or pouncing on
newbies with the same unutterably boring dogma, time after time after
time....) the answer is 'I guess not'.....

(Anybody else notice how the Pouncing ****s *never* start a thread - with
one very recent 'lame troll' exception....???)

Hence it is my intention to shift camp to uk.rec.audio.vinyl (as soon as and
if ever possible....;-) and leave ukra to its own devices or, put another
way, to return to the state it was in a few years back when I first looked
in. I would hope that at least a few people have noticed my various 'Mr Nice
Guy' efforts to improve ukra's international rep for squabbling like
immature schoolkids - a rôle which doesn't come easily to me, I assure you.

The ukra Webpages will now become the 'ukrav webpages' for two reasons: 1)
at last time of counting some 85% of those who responded sport some kind of
vinyl rig and these pages represent the subscribers, not the group itself
and 2) I ain't *that* nice a guy! Anybody got a problem with that - sue me.
Anybody wants their link/pages removed they got it without question or
hesitation. I shall be checking the entries soon and might well blow any
pages/sites that are 'vinyl-free' in any case.

If anyone wants to add a link of their own (no more 'page-building' for the
needy) to their own 'vinyl rich' site or Webpage just let me know, but do it
because *you* want it - one or two clowns actually thought they were doing
*me* some sort of favour (would you believe?).......

To Ronnie - Does this answer your question? Would you please make this known
on ukrav, pending my own 'arrival'. (I can see the posts but I can't
contrubute yet!)

To Stewart (Pinkerton) - will you take a look at the Webpage and ask
yourself the 'should you be here?' question and let me know (direct) - I
know you've got a deck and all that, but you ain't hardly a 'vinyl
enthusiast' are you....?

Finally, I would say the transition looks to be going quite smoothly and
might (as I hope) be of real benefit to all concerned. It's bound to suffer
a bit of a knock from one or two of the, er, less 'bright' that are always
with us, but I'm confident it will settle eventually down well. (If it don't
then someone, who shall remain nameless, is going to have himself some
serious 'fun' before he blows the whole sorry gig...... ;-)

Best wishes to one and all (well, nearly 'all'), have fun and take care.

That's just about it, I think, would somebody please hold the door for me? -
I don't want it to 'hit my butt' on the way out......

FWIW I think it would be a pity if you left and felt that ura was a group
where you no longer were able to read or post. The name of this group does
not specifically exclude anyone who prefers analog to digital or vice
versa.

I would be quite happy for you to continue to link to my own pages. However
vinyl gets little or no mention there in terms of the systems I use. It
does get mentioned in some of the 'misc' for things like LP cleaning and
arm resonances.I am also considering adding more in this area.

Slainte,

Jim

Just what you'd expect from a feckin' Linnie bigot.......... :-)

It's your website, but I'm happy to stay on there. Despite my
well-known opinions on the *relative* merits of CD and vinyl, vinyl is
certainly capable of reproducing great music. I'm also an experienced
vinyl user and tweaker, and I'm always interested in minimising the
fundamental awfulness of the medium. :-)

Besides, other vinyl enthusiasts might be interested in seeing a
decent vinyl setup, rather than the usual Linns....... :-)

You are a 'one' Pinky - how did I just *know* you would not see/ignore the
'direct' in my post or did you know I would hang around long enough to see
your reply? (At least give me credit for the latter....)

I generally post replies to newsgroup posts. So yes, I ignored it.

I'm also happy to retain your page because a) it is a good one, b) you've
got some good (if a little bit 'big dick') kit,

Nope, the Duettas simply sound better (to me, in my room, yada yada)
than anything else I've heard, while the Krell is one of the very few
amps that can drive them very well (3-ohm load!) - and cost less than
a grand used.

c) your knowledge and
experience is a valuable asset when you are not trying too hard to be a
'digi****',

Better than being a vinyl fetishist, shurely? :-)

d) your OT jerks can be an interesting break from the norm. In
fact the 'schizophrenia' exhibited by you on the subject of vinyl and vinyl
replay has always left me somewhat mystified.....

I like the 'warm' sound of vinyl, but I'm very aware of it's technical
problems. No schizophrenia in pointing out those deficiencies to ****s
who insist that it must be 'better' than CD just because *they* happen
to like the sound.

(Incidentally, if you wanted the files to create your own Website (allowing
tweaking etc. as and when you want) and me just carry the link to it, I
would be happy to send them to you.) You will, however, *have* to let me
know direct (or possibly on ukrav) as, once I see this posted, I'm outta
here.

Pity, ukra needs audio enthusiasts.

BTW, hope you had a good holiday - it was hot enough here to have all the'
valvies' rush out and buy SS amps! My own Technics SE-A2000 number was for a
totally different reason altogether - naturally!.... ;-)

Yup, we were sweltering in 35-40 degrees for the first week, just a
bit *too* hot for me!

(I suppose the 'stick of rock' aint gonna happen this time either!)

Sorry, but if you'd like to drop in to work, there's a big box of
'Greek Delight' on the desk by the door! :-)

That's it - gone now. Get that door for me, would ya?

Come back, all is forgiven! :-)

Thannnnk you!

My mistake, I did not intend to post that retort here on uk.rec.audio!
Must have been the late hour that dulled my senses so..
....apologies.

Sincerely,

Cesar
