I thought that Etymotics were expensive until I saw this;-) but how can that price be justified anyway? I mean, you will NEVER remove backround noise in a public environment (or even many private ones) and I have my doubts that any speaker that small can truely sound good. and the wires will break sooner or later anyway. in the home you can use proper headphones or speakers. whats the real reason people buy these things? Because they isolate by a good few dB (10-15 ish) meaning you can listen quieter and spend less time assaulting your eardrums with a wrung out personal DAB/MD/CD or whatever you listen to on the move. They're damned good, forget any earbuds you've heard before - the ER6 is the cheapest of the decent quality units (hey, I've got some shures as well, I think they're E1s or E2s but I'm not impressed with them in the same way). Etymotic ER4s are smaller and better and suffer less cable noise. |

I might aspire to the cheaper Etymotics one day, but five or six hundred quid for earphone? most unlikely;-) I mean, you will NEVER remove backround noise in a public environment (or even many private ones) and I have my doubts that any speaker that small can truely sound good. and the wires will break sooner or later anyway. Given the difference the Sony earbuds make I'm prepared to *believe* that spending ten times as much would result in getting something better. Imagine the dissapointment if it didn't!-) in the home you can use proper headphones or speakers. whats the real reason people buy these things? Because they can. I suppose. -- Nick H (UK) |

I'm presuming that he means GBP, the international code for Pounds Sterling, not UK pence.................... :-) http://www.pjbox.co.uk/etymoticindex.htm lists them at 129GBP http://www.etymotic.com suggests $139 and lists some internet distributors. So 88GBP inc taxes etc would be a good price if only the OP would tell us where he got them! -- Roger. |
