Default Cleaning a Michelle Gyro SE

I've had my Gyro SE for a few months now and I love it. However, I
have managed to get finger marks in a couple of places (mainly on the
counter-weights under the platter). I was just wondering what people
here use to clean this and other decks.

The other problem (until I get a new stand and a clearcover - the
current one being too small to take the cover) is dust. I am using a
unicover which helps prevent dust getting on the platter but it still
gets to the armtube of the technoarm I am currently using. I dust this
regularly (and carefully) but was wondering if anyone has any further
tips for avoiding dust.

Thanks for any help on this folks.

Try foam upholstery cleaner. Spray a *little* on the cloth (not on to the
deck) and have a little rub somewhere out of sight to 'test' it. Leave it a
while to ensure that the deck surface isn't affected before continuing.

To be absolutely certain, contact Michell -

http://www.michell-engineering.co.uk/lis1.html

and a) ask their recommendations, b) ask them for the opinion of the foam
cleaner you intend to try.

(Explanation - car upholstery cleaning foam is used by one of the local
audio shops for that 'instant new' look on secondhand kit.... ;-)

Gimme an address and I'll send you a bit of my binliner:

I used to use a foaming screen cleaner for all sorts of glass/plastics
cleaning. I think it was really isopropyl alchohol with a foaming agent
really - it worked fine, anyway!

Surgical spirit works well in removing old greasy finger marks from polished
metal surfaces. But it can also take off paint, so it should be used with
care.

Cleaning turntables?! Whatever next. I have to say the thought never really
occurred until I (like you) adopted a lidless type. For plastic the cleaning
science bloke at work gave me a supply of something called dataclean plastic
cleaner and lint free cloths - works a treat.

And for prevention I use a bit of silk - beware snagging on cantilevers
thobut!

But as said - I'd check with the manufacturer first, then a discreet trial
bit second.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. I'll give them a try. And I'll
contact Michelle (why didn't I think of that - doh). They've been
pretty good at answering other questions I've sent them. Even the
stupid ones.

Thanks again.
