Default Wireless home system help

Hi

I want to set up a wireless home audio system something along the
lines of...

Main system (turntable/cd/tuner/digital) has fm transmitter that
radio's scattered around house can tune into - the idea being that
these radio's could also tune into regular radio. Am I completely
bonkers? Is this possible? has anyone got any tips? One problem I have
is that my amp - cambridge audio - has no headphone socket so I would
need an FM transmitter that could take a line in some other way.

I would really appreciate a shove in the right direction - even if
that's back to the drawing board

And while we're at it... Wireless speakers? any good? any
recommendations? Not really what I want because I like the idea of
having cute radio's dotted around the place that can be re-tuned at
will rather than ugerly speakers...

Will reward all helpful suggestions with thanks and applause...

What you're suggesting is illegal. And given the densely packed FM band
unlikely to work without interference.

Yes, but I doubt that this would be a problem over such a small area
Dave. Besides do we know where the OP lives perhaps right out in the
country. Still if the regulator's can't control all the pirates in
London do you think that they'll bother about a few milliwatts, if
that?.

Not that I would condone breaking the law of course.....

As others have said, this isn't strictly legal but you can often find
kits you can build to do this (there are a couple in the old CPC
catalogue I have).

There are also cordless headphone/speaker systems which work on legal
UHF frequencies.

Cheers.

James.

Pirates often use microwave beaming or door controlled power cut-outs
to prevent the DTI tracing a signal from transmitter to "studio".
Thus, they are prevented from confiscating the bulk of the equipment
or issuing arrests. So whilst the DTI are busy detecting and pulling
down rigs all over town, the pirates are erecting new ones at about
the same pace, paid for by DJ "subs" and/or advertising. In fact, most
of these pirate stations keep stocks of transmitters for this purpose.
Whilst the DTI are involved in this never ending goose chase, there's
no way they would be remotely interested in triangulating a signal of
the milliwatt range. OTOH, the neighbours may not be pleased.

Why ever not?, surely you won't be transmitting over anything local so
what's the problem?.

Perhaps the neighbours might like "really real local radio"!....

Lots of things to play with.
